The Night of Plainfield (Conclusion)
...
So there it was...the cornfields.
The initial idea of playing the game Hassan suggested (finding your partner in the middle of the cornfields and running back out) didn't go through. This was due largely to a very tense AJ. I think all the talks and potential threats of jins scared him. And thank God, because being Punjabi, I sure as heck was not gonna admit the same fear! We actually lined up in positions for the game. AH and AJ were the two that were to go in and they both were on the phone together (the point being that they were going to count the same steps in unison -- at least 25 yards or so -- to ensure a fair distance).
But at about 10 steps into it, I noticed that the movements of the corn stalks were no longer fading to black, but were coming nearer to me. And so out comes AJ on my end and AH on the other just saying to themselves, "It is pitch DARK in there. I am not going in there myself!" I was kinda shocked. Just 10 steps into it and it was already pitch black?! What were we getting ourselves into...?
The four of us gathered together and we just knew that we couldn't leave without doing something heroic that night. Taha was bent on going in and I felt his desire. We were like Klingons awaiting to face evil as it has never been confronted before. Taha gave me a look as if to say, "Perhaps today is a good day to die."
Of course, that was Taha's look. Me? Well, the look I returned to Taha was, "Allah protect us and give us long life. Let's convert some jins..."
And in we went...
But I can't do the justice of relating the story via mere words. The Night of Plainfield story can only be told the way that only Google can bring it to us...Google Video.
I caution you, the below will undoubtedly remind you the The Blair Witch Project. Well, consider this the desi version, but for four desi guys having their real-life experiences in a dark, expansive cornfield (as opposed to a childish, fictional forest). This will bring you into the depths of what this night meant to us and how we came out victorious (eventually, that is). Indeed, we came, we saw, we conquered. We also ran, we screamed, and we cried like little girls...
Note: As this was filmed via my digital camera, I didn't have the flash abilites to record what happened in the darkness. But don't worry, that shouldn't take away from this at all...
But, be your own judge. This is not for the faint hearted: ;)

Disclaimer: Some corn stalks may have been destroyed during this process. At the time, it didn't seem to matter. Survival was on the line. You should also note that all four individuals came out fine, albeit being covered in mud and fear.
Peace Out
